Apple picking: it's a must-do activity for any Chesapeake locavore in September! While you can certainly pick up some Empire, York, or Jonagold apples at your local farmers market, it's worth it to head to an orchard instead. There are lots of apple orchards in the Chesapeake Bay region, and you can't beat the price when you pick apples yourself. Plus you'll never taste a better apple than one right off the tree; even varieties that aren't particularly exciting, such as Red Delicious, become something magical when you bite into them a few seconds after picking.
To locate an orchard near you that allows apple picking, check out our list of Apple Orchards.
